Greater Kameng inter-club badminton c’ship-2013 begins

SEPPA, Nov 25: MLA cum APEDA chairman Kumsi Sidisow inaugurated the Grater Kameng Inter-club Badminton Championship at Officer Club, Seppa yesterday.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Sidisow briedfed about the importance of games and sports which help promote, friendship, unity and brotherhood besides developing teamwork skills.

87 players from different clubs of greater Kameng district are competing in different categories in the championship.

The winners of each category will be awarded cash prize of Rs. 20,000 and the runners up will be given Rs 10,000 each. The prizes are sponsored by 14 ZPMs of East Kameng district.

Mass Peace Rally by SUMA on Nov 29

ITANAGAR, Nov 25: The Students’ Union Movement of Arunachal Pradesh (SUMA), in a meeting here today, decided to organize a Mass Peace Rally on November 29 from Itanagar to Nirjuli to register its strong protest against non-fulfillment of its demands as well as to sensitize the general public about the serious issues.

SUMA has been opposing the formation of the Joint High Power Committee (JHPC) constituted by the state government under the chairmanship of MP Takam Sanjoy to consider the issuance of PRC to non-APST residing in Arunachal Pradesh, undue use of the nomenclature “All Arunachal Pradesh Chakma Students Union (AAPCSU)” by Chakma refugees settled at Dayun (Changlang).

SUMA is also demanding complete prohibition on implementation of Multi Sectoral Development Project (Minority Scheme) and to curb the formation of Naga People’s Front (NPF), the regional political party of Nagaland, in Arunachal Pradesh immediately.

 

ANSU-USU asks for immediate arrest of other accused,

appeals for participating in November 26 protest rally

ITANAGAR, Nov 25: The All Nyishi Students’ Union Upper Subansiri unit (ANSU-USU) has appealed the Capital police to immediately nab the other culprits involved in the murder of teenager Bomjen Gapak and award them exemplary punishment as per law.

The union further appealed every individual and organization not to intervene in the matter by supporting the culprits.

Support to the criminals involved will not be tolerated. Supports encourage the criminals to go ahead and commit more crimes, it said.

It further appealed all the well wishers, NGOs, student organization and civil bodies to participate in the protest rally to be organized on November 26.

 

PCCF visits DEM wildlife sanctuary

ITANAGAR, NOV 24 Daying Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary (DEMWLS) has vast potential for eco-tourism and it will be converted into a source of sustainable income generation for the local community, said Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) cum Principal Secretary, Environment and Forests A K Wahal yesterday on his visit to the DEMWS Pasighat.

While interacting with panchayat leaders and Eco-Development Committee (EDC) members of DEMWS, PCCF assured to streamline the availability of fund for the loss of life and damages caused to properties by wild elephants. While advising the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) to work out a mechanism which can avert human-animal conflict in future, he asked the panchayat leaders to co-operate with the forest department. He further asked them to protect and preserve the flora and fauna of Protected Areas and other areas.

He was accompanied by Pasighat Chief Conservator of Forest (CCF) and Divisional Forest Officers (DFO).

 

YOMA questions on establishment of Hydro Power SE office at Delhi

ITANAGAR, Nov 25: The Youth Organization Movement of Arunachal Pradesh (YOMA) today questioned the state government over reported establishment of office of the Superintending Engineer, Department of Hydro Power Development Arunachal Pradesh in New Delhi.

Questioning the procedure and the reasons for establishment of the office in Delhi, the organization demanded the state government for its immediate shifting.

 

Quami Ekta Diwas

TEZU, Nov 25: Quami Ekta Diwas was celebrated in the office premises of the Deputy Commissioner, Tezu today. All staff under the DC establishment participated in the Diwas.

CCLAPF seeks clarification

ITANAGAR, Nov 25: Capital Complex Land Affected Peoples’ Forum (CCLAPF) has submitted a representation to the Secretary (Land Management), GoAP seeking clarification on the confusions that has arisen after the issuance of a letter by the Land Management department to the Chief Estate Officer cum ADM Capital Complex to go ahead with the eviction drive in the Capital Complex.

In its representation, the Forum reminded the Secretary (Land Management) that the state government had constituted a high level Committee under the Chairmanship of Development Commissioner (Finance), to look into the issue of the present land occupation and allotment imbroglio in the Capital Complex, whose report is still awaited.

“Thus, issuance of such arbitrary and unilateral directives by the Land Management department during the pendency of the submission of the detailed report by the Govt. constituted committee is uncalled for,” rued the Forum and requested him to roll back the above directives immediately.

 

20th NBCC Women Conference conducted

ITANAGAR, Nov 25: More than 5000 delegates participated in the 20th Nyishi Baptist Church Council (NBCC) Women Conference conducted at Town Baptist Church, Nirjuli from November 22 to 24 last.

General Secretary, NBCC Rev Halli Likha and youth secretary, NBCC, Gyamar Baba spoke on the theme ‘Do not imitate what is evil, but what is good.’

In the conference, ABCC, president, Toko Kach and secretary, ACF, Toko Teki exhorted participants to come forward and fight against immoralities, corruption and be a channel of blessing for the underprivileged women in the society.

The exhibition stalls were also put up during the three day conference which was inaugurated by local MLA Techi Kaso.

 

FGA participates in national seminar

ITANAGAR, Nov 25: Two staff from Future Generations Arunachal (FGA) Takhe Meena, Supervisor and Rubu Ampi, Finance Associate participated in a National Level Seminar on “Developing Leadership Skills of Women PRIs” organized by National Institute of Rural Development-North Eastern Regional Centre (NIRD-NERC) in Guwahati from November 18 to 21.

Some Govt. officials and PRI members from other states, including Manipur and Assam also participated in the programme.

The main objective of this training was to empower the women representatives of PRI and to develop the leadership quality. The four days programme covered various issues on PRIs role, Constitutions of India and amendments, various schemes for empowering Panchayat Raj Institutions, financial management and resource mobilization etc.

Moreover, resource persons from NIRD explained the participants how govt. departments/officials and NGOs can take part in the upliftment of Panchayat Raj.

The participants were also taken to Morigaon village on a field visit, which got Nirmal Gram Award in 2008-09, to see low cost toilet, plantation practice by local people, Kapili Development Block Colony and interacted with the people from that area and shared experiences.

 

UGC sponsored seminar held in DNGC

ITANAGAR, Nov 25: The two days University Grant Commission (UGC) sponsored national seminar on theme “Livelihood and Sustainable Development in North East States of India” was organized by Department of Economics,Dera Natung Govt College (DNGC) on November 22-23.

Attending the valedictory function, Dr. VN Sharma, State Liaison Officer, Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, GoAP highlighted the importance of such seminar for budding scholars, college and university professors as Academic Progress Indicator (API) in the new UGC rule gives emphasis on its participation and presentation of paper.

He also appreciated the Department of Economics for taking up such an important topic to address the issue of livelihood and sustainable development in Arunachal Pradesh in particular and North East States as a whole.

Technical sessions were held on “Conceptual framework in Arunachal Pradesh,”  “Conceptual framework in North East States,”  “issues and empirical study in Arunachal Pradesh” and “Issues and empirical study in North East states, informed S Khandu, vice principal of the college.

The convener of the seminar Dr. A.I. Singh read out all the papers presented during the four technical sessions. He expressed gratitude to all paper presenters coming from different parts of the State and from other States of North East for making the seminar a grand success.

 

Buddha’s relics arrive at Bomdila

BOMDILA, Nov 25: The much awaited sacred relics of Tathagatha Buddha were today flown from Tawang to Bomdila and received at Bomdila helipad by Chairman DoKA TG Rinpoche, Abbot and monks of Gontse Gaden Rabgye-Ling and Thubchog Gatseling Monasteries, Parliamentary Secretaries RT Khunjuju and Phurpa Tsering, DC, SP, ZPC, Commanding Officer 8-JAKLi, HoDs and former Minister Japu Deru and others. People, irrespective of their religious affiliations, lining-up for over a stretch of three km from helipad to Upper Gompa with Khadas, incense sticks, heads bowed and hands folded in salutation in the scorching heat, Tsangshing burning at regular distances and with prayer flags strewn all over the township reflected the deep reverence, respect and love the people have for Lord Buddha.

The relic was majestically received at Gontse Gaden Rabgye-Ling Monastery, Upper Gompa and a special prayer session was conducted in the inner sanctum of the main prayer hall before the relic was taken to the new Ashva Ghosh Library building where it was kept under the 3-tier security which would be open for public viewing from November 26 till December 2. Two murder accused held

ITANAGAR, Nov 25: The two main accused in Bompi Kali murder and concealment case (No. 24/13 under section 302/201 IPC) of Basar Police Station have been arrested by police team comprising SI T. Gadi of Police Station Aalo, SI K Riram, officer-in-charge (Special Branch) Police Station Basar led by SI RN Singh, officer-in-charge of Police Station Tirbin.

The police team under the supervision of West Siang Superintendent of Police (SP) has arrested Nyaga Sona and Mohan Mahato, the two main accused in the murder case from Mechukha and Basar on November 18 and 19 respectively, informed West Siang SP Mari Riba in a release. Several raids and arrest were also made in this connection, the SP said, adding that police had not yet completed the investigation.

 

Lok Adalat settles 63 cases

ITANAGAR, Nov 25: A total of 63 cases of various natures were disposed of in Lok Adalat held in Daporijo, Seppa and Basar on November 23.

In Lok Adalat held at Daporijo, 13 criminal and five Bakijai cases were settled while in Seppa 24 criminal and 5 civil cases were settled out of the 96. The Lok Adalat held at Basar in West Siang district has disposed of 16 cases out of 41.  DIPROs

Massive rally demands ADC for Mon region

TAWANG, Nov 25:  More than 20,000 residents of sleepy town of Mon in Tawang district took to the street today demanding setting up of Mon Autonomous Council (MAC), and said they were ready to sacrifice their lives for this long cherished goal.

Shouting slogans like "Jaan bhi denge, khoon bhi denge Mon Autonomous Council ke liye jaan bhi denge; milna hai, milna hai, Mon Autonomous Council jaldi milna hai; Bhrat sarkar jaag jaoo hamari mang puri karo" (We sacrifice life and blood for Mon Autonomous Council; Mon Autonomous Council should be granted immediately; Wake up Govt of India, meet our demand), the people attended a massive march-cum-rally from Tawang Monastery to the general ground here.

Holding banners with inscriptions – Guaranteeing autonomy is the framework of equality; The Drive for autonomy is the drive for self-respect; Autonomy is the mother of choice and freewill  – the hilarious gathering comprising of young and old, monks, NGO representatives including Yuva Arunachal, students and leaders of all hue and colour of Tawang and West Kameng districts including Mon Autonomous Region Demand Committee (MARDC) chairman Rev T G Rinpoche, Tourism & WRD Minister Pema Khandu, Parliamentary Secretaries Jamey Tashi (Civil Aviation) and Tsewang Dhondup ( Art & Culture), first Tawang MLA Tashi Khandu, former ministers Karma Wangchu and Thupten Tempa walked the four-km long road hand in hand as slogans constantly echoed the atmosphere while life in the township came to a standstill.

“The demand within the Constitution of India for self-rule by the people with a provision to protect own culture and identity is the outcome of a unanimous resolution adopted by the people on October 2 last, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi,” Rev Rinpoche said in his address to the gathering.

“He who cannot protect his identity and culture is unfit to be a human being,” Rev Rinpoche said, adding “We all would follow the Gandhian principle of non-violence without compromising with our demand and continue our struggle till the demand is met,” to the thunderous applause of the gathering.    

“It is time to assert our right as the state government is with us after the state assembly adopted a unanimous resolution demanding Mon Autonomous District Council (ADC) for Tawang and West Kameng districts and Patkai ADC for Tirap and Changlang district (Longding included) and pending in the Centre’s court on September 23 last for the third time after 2004 and 2007,” Rev Rinpoche added.

The people have decided to donate their one-month’s earning for the cause. But if the demand is not met on time, ‘Delhi chalo’ movement would be launched followed by mass resignation of elected leaders, Rev Rinpoche added.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki had informed the house that the state is under 6th Schedule of the Constitution and Panchayati Raj is effective as per 73rd Amendment Act. Pointing out that brining the state under the required provision is the prerogative of the Centre, he assured to pursue the matter.

Notably, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura states are under the 6th Schedule of the Constitution with scheduled area provision for creation of ADC where as Arunachal Pradesh has not been given that constitutional benefit within the 6th Schedule, according to constitutional expert. Moreover, Article 244A has a provision for creation of an autonomous state within the state of Assam. The same Article resulted in creation of Chandigarh and Pudduchery, the expert said, adding Constitution amendment is the only solution.    

One after other leaders reiterated the demand in their address to the gathering in the general ground and the mass gathering repeatedly gave univocal approval.

“When I informed over telephone now, the CM and Lok Sabha member Takam Sanjoy assured that they would meet UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with the memorandum in December next,” Pema Khandu said in his address to the standing ovation of the gathering.

It may be recalled that Union Road, Transport & Highway Minister Oscar Fernanades and Petroleum & natural Gas Minister Veerappa Moily, responding a question from this editor on the issue during their recent visit to the state capital, had clarified that the Constitution has provisions to meet the aspirations of all ethnic groups of India and any genuine demand moved the state government would be considered.

While many leaders called for fulfilling the demand within April 2014, 15 leaders including Rev Rinpoche, Dhondup and Tashi, in the memorandum through Minister Pema Khandu addressed to UPA chairperson, the Prime Minister, Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, pointed out that the demand of the minority Monpa tribe inhibiting both the districts was recommended to the Centre in 2004.

As Monpas, Buddhist by religion; have distinct age-old culture, script, culture and tradition, the demand aimed at preserving their culture, tradition, script and language through self-governance as it would help frame need-based plans and policies and ensure its proper implementation while facilitating blending of traditional system of governance appropriately with modern methods within the provisions of the Constitution.

“It should not be construed as an act of secession from the state but as an effort to develop a mechanism for proper development of the Monpas through self-governance,” the memorandum said, and pleaded for a positive response to the legitimate demand before the ensuing parliamentary elections.

Later, the leaders led by Khnadu handed over a separate memorandum addressed to the home secretary to Tawang deputy commissioner Abhisek Deb.

 

 

CM joins in celebration of Chalo-Loku at Deomali

DEOMALI, Nov 25: Echoes of log-drums and gun-shots reverberated in the atmosphere as Noctes of all ages, donned in traditional attires, celebrated Chalo-Loku at Deomali in Tirap district with much fanfare. The added joy this year – presence of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki – showed in the crowded faces at the festival ground.

For the citizens of Deomali, it became a historic occasion as for the first time any Chief Minister had joined in their celebration ever since its centralization.

Satisfaction and joy for local Legislator Wangki Lowang, playing the perfect host, knew no bounds.

“You are proud bearers of a very rich culture. Your ancestors have preserved it jealously for you. Now it’s your turn to pass it on to the next generation,” Tuki said in his address to the people switching between Hindi and Assamese.

Lauding the Noctes for embracing peace and development, he assured that in the next five years Arunachal Pradesh will witness a visible change in terms of socio-economic development of all corners and tribes of the state.

“Our predecessors have done a lot but there’s still a lot to do. We are a bit late and therefore will have to work together to bridge the gap,” Tuki appealed.

Informing the people of the successful job-mela conducted at Itanagar a couple of months ago, he assured similar programmes in the districts to reach out to the rural unemployed youths. He said the state was developing in all fronts and the state government is committed in ushering over-all development in key sectors like education, health, communication, sports and agri-horti. He specifically pushed for tea cultivation in a large scale as Deomali and its adjoining areas were tailor-made for it.  Tuki assured his support and cooperation for construction/upgradation of a stadium and infrastructure for the Wangcha Rajkumar Government College at Deomali.

Referring to several memoranda submitted by the people on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that all issues will be addressed as per official procedure and assured that the genuine ones will see the light of day at the earliest. The public-demands included upgradation of Deomali Sub-Divisional Office to ADC status, a sub-treasury office at Deomali, completion of Deomali-Dirak road, anti-erosion scheme for Deomali township, fire brigade and post office for Deomali, Deomali-Soha bus service, police station at Soha, etc.

The Chief Minister, immediately on arrival, laid the foundation of the Wangcha Rajkumar Government College at its permanent site and inaugurated an Indoor Stadium before joining the festivities.

Also present in the celebration were former ministers Wangpha Lowang and Chenkham Hondique and other officials.

Addressing the huge festival revelers, Rajya Sabha member Mukut Mithi said that the Noctes had a great social system and rich culture which showed be preserved for the posterity. Describing the Noctes as progressive, Mithi said that the Noctes had produced a number of towering political leaders, like late Nokmey Namatey, T L Rajkumar,L Wanglat and the others in the past.

Earlier, he unfurled the Chalo Loku flag and released a book titled “ A collection of Nocte folksongs, folktales and proverbs’ written by D Bosai and T Tongluk. He also released a Nocte music CD.

In his speech, Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker and chief of Borduria Wanglin Lowangdong said that the Noctes had well-unit , well-structured age-old traditional systems and rich culture. He appealed all to zealously guard their traditional culture. He further said that the Noctes have to themselves protect their culture as no outsiders would come to protect and promote their it.

Communal tag saddens MP

ITANAGAR, Nov 25: Lok Sabha Member Takam Sanjoy has bared his heart out for the first time to express dismay over a reported vicious campaign tagging him as a communal person. Sanjoy made his indignation clear while addressing a gathering at Donyi Polo Government College, Kamki, and another at Darak general ground in West Siang district on Saturday.

“I consider myself as the firmest pillar of communal harmony, but some people are tagging me as communal and anti-Galo. This is the handiwork of some groups with vested interests seeking to meet their selfish goals. There is no truth in it, and such cheap trick saddens me to the core,” an emotional Sanjoy said.

He disclosed that, in fact, since his student and AAPSU days he has mingled mostly with Galo and Adi friends and he still shares a strong bond with them. While advising his detractors to stop playing the communal card, he challenged rumour mongers, saying he would quit as MP if they can come out with concrete evidence of him having indulged in promoting communal hatred in any form.  

“I’m in the political field and I am often subjected to criticism for my failure in discharging my duties as the people’s representative. I accept such criticism, even though it’s not possible for any parliamentarian to solve each and every problem at short notices. But I cannot live with the communal tag as I despise it the most. I’ve been actively promoting communal harmony as a student leader as well as a mainstream politician, and I scorn people who foment communal passion to serve their selfish goals,” he said. Sanjoy minced no word, telling the gatherings that it all began with the tussle for the CM’s chair within the same party, and how he was made to pay with his image for supporting the deserving candidate. “Be judicious; do not fall prey to unfounded, vicious campaigns,” he said.

The Congress veteran also recalled how he had been maligned as being involved in a fake rape case in a national magazine. He asked the people to judge for themselves who could be behind such malicious work.  

The MP hailed Chief Minister Nabam Tuki as a visionary, “and, above all, for not being vindictive,” and urged the people to continue supporting Tuki, “so that the ray of development reaches every corner of the state.” He further added that Tuki’s ‘Gandhian approach’ in governance in a short span of two years is greatly laudable.

Describing Sanjoy as a “practical MP,” Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress vice president Nyamar Karbak highlighted the parliamentarian’s contributions towards the state’s betterment.

“We must remain grateful to Sanjoy for his contributions in changing the nomenclature of Galong to Galo, besides bringing in various developmental works to our area,” Karbak added.

 

 

APSCW team tours Lohit, Anjaw

ITANAGAR, Nov 25: A team of Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) led by its Chairperson Gumri Ringu recently toured Lohit and Anjaw districts and organized series of legal awareness campaigns on statutory rights of women and children.

Addressing the campaigns, APSCW chairperson Gumri Ringu explained in details on “Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005” and “Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006” and various other laws relating to crime against women, children and other disadvantaged. While informing the gatherings about the purpose of constitution of the Women Commission, Ringu appealed to all not to misuse these laws.

APSCW vice chairperson Radhilu Chai Techi highlighted the powers and functions of the Women Commission and its activities during the last two years through PowerPoint presentation.

Lohit Superintendent of Police Tumme Amo highlighted the  laws that protect women and children’s rights. He also dwelt on “Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and Anti Rape Law 2013.

The Members of the APSCW Binny Yanga, Dharmawati Mangmaw and Yabin Zirdo also spoke on the occasion about domestic violence, child marriage and polygamy.

The APSCW team claimed that child marriage was still prevalent in some pockets of Lohit and Anjaw districts and majority of the populations are addicted to drugs, opium and alcohol.

While suggesting the government to set up drugs rehabilitation centre, the Women Commission said that the people of the two districts have also urged for establishing District Grievances Cell and Juvenile Home.

The APSW team also visited the last Indian Border village, Kaho under Kibethoo circle of Anjaw District and interacted with the defense personnel. They also paid homage to the martyrs of the World War in Walong of Anjaw district.

 

 

NABCONS organizes sensitization progs

ITANAGAR, Nov 25: NABARD Consultancy Services (NABCONS), Arunachal Pradesh Regional Office, Itanagar in collaboration with National Institute of Agricultural Marketing (NIAM), conducted three sensitization programmes on development, strengthening of Agricultural Marketing Infrastructure, Grading and Standardization in Lower Subansiri district.  

The sensitization programme at Hapoli was conducted for members of Large Sized Multipurpose Cooperative Society (LAMPS), Ziro which was attended by the members of including Koj Tara, Chairman.

The programme at Tajgi was conducted for entrepreneurs of the area whereas the programme at Mai village was intended for sensitization of members of farmers' organization. The prog-rammes were conducted from November 23-25.

OP Mounglang, DDM, NABARD, Ziro coordinated the programmes. The credit/loan linked subsidy scheme of GOI wherein 33.33% subsidy is available for interested individuals/groups with upper ceiling of Rs.60 lakh in the total project cost was explained in detail in the programmes.

The scheme has been formulated to develop marketing infrastructure in the country to cater to the post-harvest requirement of production and marketable surplus of various farm products including horticulture, dairy, meat etc.

A similar programme was also held at Miao today.

Nitya Mili, Assistant Project Manager, NABARD outlined the details of the programme by briefing the participants about the scheme.

The participants were also briefed about the present agriculture marketing bottleneck which leads to wastage of food grains and horticulture products.

It was pointed out that there was ample scope for growth of both agriculture and horticulture products.

Mili stressed on post harvest management and how losses could be minimized with the help of proper grading, packaging, storage etc. The grading of produce based on color, size could fetch good price in the markets.

Due to bad storage practices, about 30% of the produce is destroyed resulting in losses to the farmers. It was also pointed out that processing specially for products like ginger, pineapple and orange is very much required to prevent them from getting wasted due to communication and marketing bottleneck. The Central Government scheme in the present scenario can alleviate the scenario in a big way by bringing in marketing infrastructure in the state.

One attacked in Battalion Training Centre, Dergaon

ITANAGAR, Nov 25: Alleging brutal attack on one Bater Koyu by a fellow trainee of Battallion Training Centre, Dergaon, Assam on November 18 last night, the Ramle Banggo Welfare Society (RBWS) has urged upon the state government to unearth the truth behind the attack and to give stringent punishment to the attacker as per law.

According to RBWS, he is in a comatose state at Sanjivani Hospital, Dibrugarh. They appealed for providing financial assistance to the victim.

Saying that the immediate relief of Rs 1000 for the cyclone victims of June 3 of Namey, Lumpo and Nari villages was not enough, it urged upon the state government to properly compensate the victims at the earliest.

The society further appealed the government to sanction corpus fund of minimum Rs. 10 lacs to the ADC Nari to meet any emergency or unforeseen activity in the area.

In another release, the Ramle Banggo Students’ Union (RBSU) appealed concern authority not to grant bail to the accused involved in the attack on IRBn trainee and to award exemplary punishment.

Urging for similar demand of awarding exemplary punishment as per law to the culprit, the Ramle Banggo Students’ Union (RBSU) said that the culprit should not be bailed out.

The RBSU further condemned the negligent and irresponsible attitude of the training centre authorities saying that the victim was not taken to the hospital immediately.

 

 

Need to improve dignity of labour: Siram

PASIGHAT, Nov 25: Education Minister Bosiram Siram said that there was need to improve the dignity of labour and the state government has taken special initiative to improve the living standard of the workers.

Addressing the first general conference of All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU) at Pasighat market yesterday, Siram said the state government was fully aware of the problems of the labourers in the state and has taken special steps to improve the dignity of labour.

“Our government is making all efforts to address the problems faced by the working community and has taken steps to promote their living standard. Appointment of contingency staff (laborers) will be made on seniority basis,” he said while informing that labour welfare schemes have been launched through constitution of Labour Welfare Board.

The minister also said that adequate fund has been allotted in Labour Welfare Board (LWB) for implementation of various labour welfare schemes such as construction of sanitary toilets, rest-shed etc. Minimum one percent money out of the central and state government grants goes to LWB for implementing the labour welfare schemes.

Stating that the labours are backbone of the society, the minister urged the labour communities to maintain unity among them.

Responding to a memorandum submitted by East Siang unit of the labour union, the minister assured to pursue the matter with the concerning ministry to grant fund for construction of AAPLU’s office besides two ‘thela’ stands in Pasighat town.

Speaking on the occasion, Labour Commissioner Ojing Darung suggested the labours to work under the relevant rules and keep closer relation with District Labour Officer and report their problem. Briefing on the Pension scheme, Accident insurance and marriage assistance, children’s education meant for labour families, he urged the labourers to avail the benefits.

Legal adviser of AAPLU, advocate Borik Tarrang urged the people to honour the labourers, He pledged to take up any labour-related cases free of cost.

State level AAPLU president Dana Tadu, in his address highlighted the importance of labourers in the society. He alleged that some individuals with vested interests are misusing the name of labour union for their selfish interest and cautioned them to refrain from such illegal practices.

 

 

2nd Princess of Arunachal beauty pageant on Dec 7

ITANAGAR, Nov 25:   The 2nd Princess of Arunachal beauty contest will be organized at Nyikum Niya Ground, Nirjuli on December 7, 2013 after a gap two years, informed organizer Saviour Friends Creation (SFC), a city based event management group.

The eligibility criteria of the events are-- the contestants must be a class X pass and they should attain the minimum age of 16 and maximum age of 26 years.

Addressing the media persons at Arunachal Press Club here today, SFC chairman Kop Camdir Tai said that the main objectives of the beauty contest is to provide a platform to the young girls to show their talents as well as to encourage and prepare them to participate in regional and national level beauty contests.

The winner of the beauty contest will represent the state in Dabur Gulabi Northeast Beauty contest while the runners up would be given opportunity to participate in Miss Eclectic Model haunt, he informed.

Stating that Princess of Arunachal will be the gateway to Pantaloom Miss India, the Chairman said, “Platform is giving wings to beauty aspirants to showcase their talent in bigger platform.”

SFC further disclosed that 70 percent of the total tickets sale would go to the fund of orphanage for poor and needy people. Without naming the orphanage, the SFC chairperson further said that some amounts of the winner’s cash prize would also go to orphanage.

The first audition has already been conducted and eight contestants have been selected, he said adding that second round of audition will be held soon.

Organizing Secretary Lily Noshi Lobom, Chief Auditor Tem Jarpung and Finance Secretary-Gater Kato Lobom were present in the press conference, among others.

 

 

Yak Mela draws huge turnout of Brokpas

DIRANG, Nov 25: ‘Yaks also called ship of the mountains and as revered by the Monpas as mithuns by Abotani brethrens are today on the verge of extinction and every effort should be made to preserve them for the future generations’, said Parliamentary Secretary-cum-Chairman Science and Technology and Dirang MLA Phurpa Tsering.

While inaugurating the maiden ‘Yak Mela’ at Mandhlaphudung under Dirang circle which is located at a height of 9000 feet above sea level, Phurpa appreciated the efforts of NRC-Yak for organizing the event and appealed them to organize similar events in other high altitude areas where yaks and brokpas are active.

On the occasion, he also distributed essential materials including tents and blankets to the ‘brokpas’ or highlanders and assured to extend similar help in future as well. NRC Yak Director Dr. M.M. Deb also assured to organize similar fairs to help the brokpas in future.

During the day, more than 200 brokpas along with their thousands of yaks attended the mela.

 

 

Dustbins distributed to shopkeepers

CHANGLANG, Nov 25: District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) under the initiative of Deputy Commissioner Chanchal Yadav and UPO Changlang Tadar Tarang distributed 360 dustbins to the shopkeepers of Changlang town and installed 30 more big dustbins in the market area here on November 23.

The Deputy Commissioner, who also is DUDA chairman, advised all the shopkeepers to maintain cleanliness in the township and use the dustbins properly. The DC requested them to co-operate with DUDA’s routine cleanliness drive and to not through plastic and paper wastes into the stream and nallahs.

Parliamentary Secretary Thinghaap Taiju, who was also present on the occasion, appreciated the initiative by DUDA and requested the shopkeepers to help the authority in keeping the township neat and clean.

Mammun, Suraj Singh wins title

NAHARLAGUN, Nov 25: Mammun Ishaque Goney from Arunachal Pradesh won the first Mr Arunachal title while N Suraj Singh from Manipur was declared the 5th Mr Eastern India on Sunday - the final day of the contests that were held simultaneously at the IMC multipurpose building here.

Apologies are due as this reporter had in the November 25 issue of this daily erroneously informed that Hura Monu had won the Mr Arunachal title. The error is deeply regretted.

Goney (Capital Gym) also represented Arunachal in Mr Eastern India championship, and secured the 3rd position.

In the Mr Arunachal championship, Pradip Baruah (Capital Gym) and Hura Monu (Capital F Point Gym) were the first and second runner-up respectively. M Robi Singh (Assam) and W Kiran Singh (Manipur) were the first and second runner-up respectively of Mr Eastern India contest.

Addressing the valedictory event, chief municipal councillor Higio Aruni (chief guest) while admitting that she had no idea that bodybuilding could be taken up as a career praised the organizers and encouraged the participants to go on doing better in the future.

Arunachal Weightlif-ting Association president Techi K Abraham, who was also chairman of the event’s organising committee, made special mention of the state government’s efforts to promote games and sports, and for providing all-round support in conducting the bodybuilding competitions.

ITW doing wonderful job

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to appreciate the Itanagar Traffic Wardens (ITW) who is working tirelessly in the congested road of capital complex. After the introduction of these Traffic Wardens the capital roads scenario has witnessed sea changes. They have reduced the problems of vehicular traffic jams, road accidents, traffic rule breakers etc.

One of the most inspiring work they have done is by helping out the accident victims who are in the need of immediate help at the accident site, as I had witnessed one accident scene at Ziro Point Tinali where one old man of above 50 years who was trying to cross the road was hit by over speeding bike leaving the old man grievously injured. I saw that no citizen came forward to extend helping hand instead they were standing as mute spectator. It was the energetic on duty Traffic Warden who took him to RKM Hospital immediately by hiring one tempo. Without caring the fact that victim’s bloods were all over his white uniform, he played the role of Good Samaritan.

Therefore, it is my sincere request to all of the people, drivers, bikers and pedestrians of capital complex to cooperate in their works by becoming traffic rules abiding citizens.

‘President's Visit and the States Development’

Dear Sir,

Kudos to the recent hush and rush developmental work being carried out by the concerned Departments in the University premises and the entire capital complex. It is indeed a relief to the hues and cries of tireless pens and throats of the common masses whose voice were unheard until these few days. I say, the whole credit should be given to His Highness, the President of India whose news of visit made the Departments to tighten their belts. Now when the things are getting better and the developments though least, I wonder for how long it will last? Will the State Govt. carry the pace even after the President's visit? Or will it be a part of mock development? It was also good to see that a day ago our CM visited the university premise to investigate the arrangements for the president's visit himself. If such visits are made often I am sure the quality of work will prosper and in no time our State will be in the list of developed States. What keeps knocking my head is that, if our departments can manage time, money and labour in no time than why can't they in the long run? Many questions, but only the time has its story to say. Let us hope that this hush-and-rush development remains even after the president leaves.

Think before writing

Dear Editor,

Through this letter I want to express my opinion regarding the view which was shared by one Honiya Dakpe, under the headline ‘Don’t fool us’ published on 22/11/2013 in Readers Forum column of this daily. In the official website of Directorate of school education it is clearly mentioned that the CM’s talent award will cover all the students of Govt. School .Therefore how come one of our friend is claiming that she didn’t received the laptop along with the cash prize. I agree with her point of view that the students of only some of the School of our state received the CM Talent award, as many toppers didn’t received the said Award .Before writing something on the letter to editor’s column we must be sure about what we are writing and why we are writing because it is to be publicized all over the state of Arunachal. I was also a student JNV AALO which is a central GOVT. school I have secured a CGPA of 8.4 in the year 2011-2012 which is equivalent to the toppers of state Govt. School who receipt the said award, but this doesn’t mean that I break down the condition prescribed by the state Govt for receiving the said award and claim for the said award.

Time to pull up sock

The Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, in its meeting held on November 18 this month has considered proposal worth Rs. 400 crores in phase X (Batch- II) for a length of 421 km under PMGSY for Arunachal Pradesh. The Ministry while keeping in view the geo- political and strategic sensitivities of the area, considered Rs. 400 crores worth proposal out of the Rs. 801 crores submitted by the state. Further, the ministry taking into all aspect advised the state that balance proposal may be submitted in January, 2014, which would be again considered by the Empowered Committee. Earlier, this year the Ministry had sanctioned 97 roads and 31 long span bridges at a cost of Rs. 897 crores covering length of 1190 km under PMGSY Phase-X (Batch- I).

This news comes as big relief for the people of state who were deeply skeptical whether centre will continue funding road projects in Arunachal. It is a well known fact that centre is worried about inordinate delay in completion of road projects under Trans- Arunachal Highway (TAH) and PMGSY. Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh in February this year wrote a letter to Chief Minister Nabam Tuki showing his displeasure over slow progress of PMGSY road projects. It is time state govt especially implementing agencies of TAH and PMGSY should pull up sock and implement road project in letter and spirit. They should remember that centre is keeping a close vigil on entire projects.
